The Perfect Durango Family Activity
Do you remember driving go-karts as a kid? What did you remember most about the experience?
Most adults will tell you that they loved driving all by themselves. There’s just something about the first taste of freedom and independence that sticks with you, even as an adult. At Colorado Outback Adventures, we have revolutionized the traditional go-kart experience by taking it off-road. Looking for family activities and things to do in Durango with kids, we got you covered!
The Mudhead® 208R is Hammerhead’s off-road go-kart designed specifically for kids. This two seat-mini RZR/UTV has a 208cc (6.5HP) engine, LED headlines, and can even drive in reverse.
The Mudheads® have two bucket seats that are each equipped with three-point safety harnesses. With all disc brakes, front and rear suspension, you can rest at ease knowing your kids are completely safe.
Every spring, we build an off-road track at Purgatory’s Columbine Lot (just 30 miles north of Downtown Durango, Colorado). The adventure track is never the same two years in a row – we’ve been known to add obstacles from time to time. As your kids race around the adventure track, they will get a true off-road experience that they will be talking about for months to come.
This activity is a blast for the entire family. Kids 10 years old and up can drive their own Mudhead®. Kids younger than 10 can ride along with a family member or friend who is at least 16 years old.
Your kids won’t want to miss this outrageous spin on traditional go-karting!

The track is located in the Lower Columbine lot at Purgatory Ski Resort, just 30 miles north of Durango, Colorado.
